    I need help to emotionally regulate! It s a littlerly need i have with other People to get help and regulate my inner child, and reciving it from a man is profound and deep for my nervous system and its a good brigde to receive that from u philipp before im redy to receive it physically. And im curious to se if thats possible with these moduals..
    Also if i learn to be with my emotions more i come into my projector power in human design. Im lost without guidens if i dont have access to my emotionally center to guide me. And im prettty deep into nervous system teachings but being with emotions to actually regulate i havent been understanding so much before.

      To be more precise: in my 70, I still wonder why did I make bad decisions at several life crossroads. One of my triggers is the feeling of being somehow ” different”, in a negative way. But, I would like to recognize other triggers as well.

    The danger of fighting emotions:
    The main impact of dwelling on a dysfunctional belief (ruminating about it) is the loss of energy and focus at work. The secondary impact is the feeling of guilt for not being able to work as I would like.

    “One of the automatic triggers you have identified in yourself”
    I often find myself dwelling on the dysfunctional belief that “people are untrustworthy, and even if they claim to love me, they may abandon me at any moment.” When I experience a situation where such a dysfunctional belief seems to be true, this habit of rumination paralyzes me, leading to anxiety and sadness, and saps my creative energy. Consequently, I struggle to maintain focus on my tasks. As my mind transports me to these melancholic realms during periods of rumination, frustration, and sadness intensify. This mental and emotional state hinders my ability to work seamlessly.

      That’s a really great awareness of this trigger and its underlying mechanisms. The next step would be to connect with that emotion, understand why it believes that, and help it transform!

    Filipe, you just stated in the second video that CBT tends not to be effective?! The evidence behind the effectiveness of CBT is robust! You might be correct about your other statements but I suggest to maintain trust with your students that you pull that statement out. I’m confident neither Paul nor Eve Ekman would be OK with that.

      Hi Richard, thank you for your preoccupation. I agree that CBT has helped a lot of people and believe there’s robust evidence for its effectiveness. I also believe there’s evidence that demonstrates its ineffectiveness – especially when working at deeper levels such as with trauma.
      Above all, this view comes from my experience with my clients. I consistently see that CBT helps people understand why they feel or behave in certain way and even helps them cope with those patterns, but it also fails in helping them create deep, lasting transformation. Most often people know where their patterns come from, but they still have them – although they now have coping mechanisms to manage them as well. But CBT typically does not produce healing, and that’s because it’s not an integrated approach.
      If you prefer, you can see this as my personal view, and you’re welcome to disagree, of course. And, although I’m not aware of Paul or Eve’s views on this matter, if they disagree that’s okay too. We don’t have to agree in everything, and all perspectives are valid. Take the one that benefits you the most!

    I’m not sure I believe our highest aspiration is happiness. I think the research from Dr. Martin Seligman’s department at the University of Pennsylvania, who is the founder of positive psychology and authentic happiness is that it’s PERMA: Positive Emotion, 
    Engagement, 
    Relationships, 
    Meaning and 
    Accomplishment, of which happiness is one. When I think of what I want for my children it is more than being happy. Might argue that achieving all the above would lead to happiness but I think the, for lack of a better word sense of fulfillment and using Martin Seligman’s words, *thriving*, encompasses more than happiness.

      Hi Richard, welcome, and thank you for your interesting comment. The way I use happiness here is indeed more in the sense of your last paragraph. In the full CEB, we go deeper into this question and differentiate between two types of happiness: there’s the “mundane” type, similar to pleasure, and then there’s the happiness that can also be called flourishing or thriving. This form of happiness is directly correlated with meaning
      So, in your example above of the PERMA components, you can look at each of them as being a source of happiness and/or meaning. Both work.
      This is, as I’ve said, a more advanced question that we dive deeper into in the full CEB, but thank you for bringing it here!

    Here because I am healing traumas and trying to understand myself and sabatoging behaviors. Recently had an emotional episode. My emotions too me too a place I never want to visit again. Would like master control of my emotions and change behaviors. Learning to respond instead of react.

    Hello Filipe, my name is Lynda. I have enjoyed the videos for lesson 1 very much and am very hopeful I can get my emotions more balanced. I am still recovering from major surgery last year which came about as my 5th surgery for cancer. It was a huge surgery and I really didn’t think I would survive. It has been very hard to regain some hope and it has caused great distress for my family. Worrying about them is constant and I recognise that my responses to my emotions come from long existing triggers. I am looking forward very much to learning more from you, thank you so much.

    The biggest takeaway from Lesson 1
    When faced with emotional imbalances, whether stemming from a deficiency or an excess, I have tended to devise strategies that inadvertently distance me further from my intended goals. In essence, I find myself addressing the symptoms rather than delving into the root causes of these emotions. I must shift my focus towards understanding and addressing the underlying factors that give rise to these dysfunctional emotions.
